Durant is a city in Holmes County, Mississippi, United States. It is located in the central part of the state and lies about 45 miles north of the capital city of Jackson. The city covers an area of about 3.8 square miles and has a population of approximately 2,800 people. The town was named after Louis Durant, a Choctaw chief who lived in the area in the early 19th century. Durant has a diverse economy with industries such as agriculture, manufacturing, and healthcare. The city has several schools, including Durant Public School District and Holmes County Central High School. There are also several parks and recreational areas in the city, including the Durant Sports Complex and Farris Park. In addition, Durant is home to the historic Holmes County Courthouse, which was built in 1915 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
